Perhaps you have been referred to us for a suspicious mammogram or you can feel a lump in your breast. Our surgeons are experts in breast surgery and breast cancer care, offering advanced diagnosis and treatment options for common and complex breast situations. Our team-based approach coordinated through the McGlinn Cancer Institute at the Reading Hospital insures that you will receive the most effective, comprehensive care based on the latest scientific data from experts dedicated to your well being. Our surgeons will work with your specific needs to offer a continuum of care through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
What to expect during your initial appointment?
You will meet with your surgeon for an initial consultation. If you have had radiology studies (Mammogram, Ultrasound, CAT Scan, PET Scan, etc) outside of the Reading Hospital, please bring them with you to your initial appointment. There are situations where an ultrasound guided biopsy can be performed in the office on the day of the initial appointment, however this will not be determined until the time of the appointment and is not appropriate in every situation.
Before your surgery
If you need further tests prior to surgery, our office will coordinate these appointments. Our surgery scheduler will work with you to find a convenient time for your surgery. She will coordinate your “preadmission testing” and review with you what you need to do prior to your surgery. If you surgeon refers you to Breast Clinic, our office will schedule your appointment for you.
For any questions regarding your surgery, please call 370-374-7720 ext. 12.
Following your surgery
Your post-surgery experience will depend upon the type of surgery had. Your surgeon will provide you specific post-op instructions and will also coordinate your care if follow up treatment is necessary. See “After Your Surgery” for some common post-surgery concerns. And remember that we are always a phone call away!
For Biopsy Results:
If your surgeon performed a biopsy, the results from pathology will determine the next steps. Results are usually back within a week, so if you have not heard from our office within that time, please call. We understand that the waiting can be excruciating and it is our policy to inform you of those results as soon as we get them.
